Proof that obesity can be overcome with hardwork

Phil's Story

How BBM Helped him lose 140kgs+ Must Watch!

Just everything about life in general. I had zero self-confidence and I wouldn’t go out to public places because I was ashamed to be seen and would always worry about people staring. I kept myself locked away from the world and when I got a condition on my right leg everything went downhill, I felt depressed and it was even taking a toll on my relationship. It was not a good place to be at.

Long story short I was in hospital for a leg infection and the doctor told me that if I wasn’t going to do anything with my weight that the next time he will see me is in the morgue. Those words hit me and I knew when I got out I had to do something about my health.

Aw man where do I start! To be honest EVERYTHING about my life has changed its like I’m reborn again. My mindset has changed majorly, I don’t eat like I use to and I don’t have any more fizzys or sweet drinks (I was bad with fizzy drinks). I’m out and about everyday my confidence has shot to the roof. I’m living my best life and I’m loving it. I”M JUST DAMN HAPPY!! What are your words of advice to those starting? Don’t worry about what others think, this is your journey not theirs. Set some realistic goals be patient and work towards it one step at a time. Above all Quit making EXCUSES.

Lost 46kgs

✨️Before I started BBM, the most challenging part of my day-to-day life was adjusting to being a new mum again with my third son. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and honestly scared of slipping back into the postpartum depression I’d experienced before. I felt myself slowly losing pieces of who I was, and I knew I needed something that would help me stay grounded, supported, and connected to myself while still showing up for my babies

✨️BBM actually started as a trial and error for me. A friend suggested the Mums and Bubs class, which allowed me to bring my baby along. I loved that it was a space designed for mums like me to focus on health, fitness, and wellbeing without having to worry about childcare.

✨️Besides the obvious change in body composition—losing over 40kg since starting—BBM has given me so much more. Mentally, it’s helped me go from navigating my postpartum journey to now navigating grief after losing my brother. I’m stronger, grounded, and so grateful I found BBM before it all .

✨️My advice to anyone starting is simple—don’t overthink it. Just show up, trust the process, and take it one step at a time. The small, consistent actions add up, and before you know it, you’ll be ultra strong , fit and one badasssss gym baddie 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♂️

Luke's Story

Lost 80kgs

Everything from going to the toilet, tying my shoe laces, putting a seatbelt on, no energy, no confidence, chronic sleep apnea, chronic snoring

My mother and sister organised a meeting with Dave after a failed consultation with surgeon. We started 3 days later

I’m not falling asleep while stopped at the lights, more energy to do things with my son when I get home from work, more confidence, I now have respect for myself, and I can finally fit clothes from a normal shop.

Piece of advice will be “believe in the process, believe in yourself,  surround yourself with good people and never give up”

Lost 20kgs

Getting up and out of bed. I got to a point where I didn’t even want to leave the house. Just being alive was exhausting. I felt like a failure because I couldn’t please anyone and I hated that.
I also used a walking frame, walking was so tiring.
 A couple of things did.
1) I was tired of just existing. Everything medical, physical, mental and emotional that I had been through had to be for something? I had a purpose, I just didn’t know what it was. Yet!
2) I had heard by word of mouth about BBM and even got told where the bootcamps were and when (and my excuses came out in bucket loads) Sign 1.
3) I watched Phil and the No Excuses program on YouTube and thought ok this is sign 2. I watched Barb and Misi walk up Zoo Hill and thought to myself… “If they can do it so can I..!!” So when I finally did, I cried, nobody knew how special that moment was for me.
4) My cardiologist told me I was just lazy… And that actually pissed me off, I saw an ad on Facebook for the BBM Ward 2 & I applied and waah laah…! The rest is history.️
Other than the weight loss, I have made a lot of new friends who I call family. I have also lost some along the way 😢
I have done almost everything I have ever dreamed of.. Climbed mountains, done marathons, done Round the bays and been to places I have only dreamed about… Corporate box at Eden park to watch a concert..!!!
I am now in full time employment, something I thought I could never do again with my heart condition and just secretly it’s my dream job…! Working with the most amazing talented and kind people…
I have a new found love for exercise and I have learnt to appreciate and control the food that I put into my body.
My health has improved substantially… No longer a Type 2 diabetic and my heart condition is great..🏼
My next goal in life is to be able to share what I’ve learnt with whanau who are in the same condition I was when I started… to “Pay it forward” so to speak.
And I’m still alive for my babies and their babies… I’m still here for my family…
